A or An Checker for English Words and Phrases

Article Hinge suggests “a” or “an” from the sound at the start of your word, abbreviation, number, or noun phrase. It explains the detected pattern and lets you override it when a name, acronym, or dialect uses a different pronunciation.

How to use Article Hinge

  1. Enter the word or noun phrase without an article, such as “hour”, “university”, or “MRI scan”.
  2. Review the completed phrase and the sound-based explanation; use the pronunciation override when the term is said differently.
  3. Copy the completed phrase for your sentence. Treat names, regional pronunciations, and unfamiliar acronyms as cases to verify aloud.
