Calculate how long a file takes to download on dial-up

Dial-up Transfer Time divides the file's bits by the throughput you enter. MB uses 1,000,000 bytes and MiB uses 1,048,576 bytes. The 56 kbit/s button is an example value, not a measured connection. Results assume a constant payload rate with no setup, protocol overhead, stalls or retries, so real transfers can take longer. Enter measured payload throughput when you have it.

How to use Dial-up Transfer Time

  1. Enter a positive file size, choose MB or MiB, and enter throughput in kbit/s. Select Use 56 kbit/s example for an illustrative value.
  2. Optionally enter minutes available, then select Estimate transfer to see the ideal duration and whether it fits that budget.
  3. Change any input to clear the previous estimate. Select Copy estimate to save the displayed numbers, or Clear all to start over.
