Visualize a 2D Signed Distance Field
Distance Field Lab plots a circle and an axis-aligned box on a coordinate plane. Choose union, intersection or A minus B to see the zero contour and whether a probe lies inside or outside. The example loads with both shapes ready to edit. Coordinates and field values use canvas units, not physical measurements. Composite field magnitudes are useful for inspection but are not always the shortest geometric distance to the combined edge.
How to use Distance Field Lab
- Edit the circle center and radius or the box center, width and height. Coordinates stay within X −150 to 150 and Y −100 to 100.
- Choose Union, Intersection or A minus B. Select Probe P, Circle A or Box B, then click the plot or use arrow keys to reposition it; Shift plus an arrow moves ten units.
- Read the signed value beneath the plot: negative is inside, positive is outside and near zero is on the edge. Download the visible 600 × 400 PNG or reset the example.
