Calculate and Hear an FM Synthesis Tone

FM Tone Bench turns a carrier frequency, modulator frequency and modulation index into a waveform preview, peak frequency deviation and a guide to the first six sideband pairs. It also plays the sine-wave FM tone in your browser. The guide shows mathematical coefficient magnitudes rather than measured audio levels; components can overlap or fold around zero frequency.

How to use FM Tone Bench

1. Enter a carrier frequency in hertz, a modulator frequency in hertz and a modulation index.
2. Select Calculate tone to inspect the 20 ms waveform, peak deviation and sideband spacing.
3. Select Play tone to listen, stop playback when finished, or download the settings for use elsewhere.
